Climate Change

Solving the climate crisis not only protects us, but it strengthens us too.

As the elected chief executive of one of the largest towns in the country and an executive policy maker and administrator in one of the largest counties in the country, I have created, implemented, and supported policies for more than two decades that reduce our carbon footprint and protect our environment. Addressing Climate Change is a top and immediate priority.

As the state-appointed Superstorm Sandy Czar in 2013, I’ve been on the front lines dealing with the impacts of severe weather in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy. As a Long Island town supervisor and presently as Suffolk County’s Deputy County Executive, I pushed and passed laws and policies that reduced our town’s carbon footprint through changes in our building codes, converting our municipal fleet to alternative sourced fuels, and crafting town-wide recycling and waste reduction programs in which tens of thousands of residents would participate. In fact, Suffolk County is at this moment leading the way in generating wind power, solar energy, and training for green jobs.

As a member of Congress, I will support the Paris Climate Agreement and work to build domestic and international consensus around the urgent need to curb carbon emissions. I will support legislation that transitions the United States to a Green Energy Economy and I will oppose dirty extraction policies that endanger our water and our land.
